SC reprimanded on GRAP IV, government failed to follow, gave these instructions on entry of heavy vehicles

Delhi Pollution: The increasing air pollution in Delhi is a cause of concern. The situation is such that the air quality in Delhi has reached poor levels. In view of this, Grape 4 was implemented, but now the Supreme Court has reprimanded the Delhi Government and Police regarding this. The Supreme Court said that the government has failed to implement Grape-4 properly. Besides, the court has also given necessary instructions regarding the entry of heavy vehicles in Delhi.

These instructions were given on the entry of heavy vehicles

The Supreme Court, while hearing the pollution case, directed the Delhi Government and the Police to immediately establish checkpoints at all the 113 entry points in Delhi regarding the entry of heavy vehicles in Delhi. The SC said that the personnel deployed at the entry points should be clearly informed about the items approved under essential commodities. After this instruction of the court, strictness will increase at all these entry points of Delhi.

GRAP-4: What else did SC say

The top court said that out of 113 entry points, only 13 major entry points are being monitored. At the same time, there is no one to check the entry of heavy vehicles like trucks at about 100 entry points. The government should also increase surveillance at these entry points to ensure compliance with Sections A and B of GRAP Phase IV.

SC said that despite the orders passed by the Supreme Court and CAQM Delhi government and police have failed to follow Group 4 properly.

The court further said that the 13 entry points are being monitored. CCTV cameras are installed there. The court directed to give the CCTV footage to the amicus curiae as soon as possible so that the 13 lawyers of the bar can examine them and find out whether all the sections of GRAP-4 are being followed properly or not.
