Tahir Hussain, one of the main accused in the 2020 riots in Delhi, is in jail. More than 50 people died in the riots in Delhi. Accused Tahir is also accused of being involved in the murder of IB officer Ankit Sharma. The accused had previously been a corporation councilor from the Aam Aadmi Party. In the Delhi Assembly elections, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has made Tahir Hussain its candidate from Mustafabad Assembly seat.

Tahir's bail plea was heard on Monday in the bench of Supreme Court Justices Pankaj Mithal and Ahsanuddin Amanullah. Pointing out that Tahir was in jail on serious charges, Justice Mithal said, “All such people should be banned from contesting elections.”

On the court's comment, Tahir's lawyer Siddharth Aggarwal said that this case is suitable for accepting bail. The Election Commission has accepted the nomination. Permission for publicity should also be given. On the request of the lawyer, the court has postponed the next hearing till Tuesday.
