New Delhi. Delhi riots accused Sharjeel Imam got a big relief from Karkardooma Court on Monday. The court has granted 10 days interim bail to Sharjeel Imam to attend his brother’s wedding and take care of his ailing mother.

What was the argument given in the court?

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai has granted interim bail to Sharjeel from March 20 to March 30. Sharjeel Imam had filed an application in the court demanding interim release for 10 days. On his behalf, the lawyers argued that his real brother was going to get married soon, hence his presence in the family was necessary. It was also told that his mother’s health was very bad and there was no one else to take care of her. Keeping these circumstances and family responsibilities in mind, the court gave relief on humanitarian grounds and allowed Sharjeel Imam to come out of jail for 10 days.

When did the violence happen in Delhi?

Violence took place in the north-eastern areas of Delhi at a time when protests were going on in the year 2020 regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens. 53 people died during the violence and arson. Angry people had protested against the decisions of the Central Government – ​​National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). However, in the Delhi Police’s allegations, many serious allegations were made against the protesters.

Sharjeel Imam had organized the biggest protest in Delhi

The longest protest against CAA and NRC was organized by JNU student Sharjeel Imam in Shaheenbagh and it was here that the conspiracy of Delhi riots was hatched. Apart from Sharjeel, JNU alumnus Umar Khalid, students of Jamia and IIT also played a big role. On the other hand, the WhatsApp group of minority community students of JNU also had a big role in hatching the conspiracy.

This claim was made by Delhi Police in the charge sheet filed in the court. According to a senior officer of the Special Cell, Sharjeel’s statement was kept in the charge sheet related to conspiracy. According to this, on December 5, more than 300 students met in JNU under the banner of minority organization. On December 6, thousands of pamphlets were distributed in cabs in Okhla, Nizamuddin, Old Delhi. It was also distributed in many towns and cities.
