Delhi Schools Closed: Hybrid schooling in Delhi NCR to continue amid GRAP 4 extension
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has decided to extend GRAP-IV till December 2 to combat poor air quality in the Delhi NCR region. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih said that the authorities failed to implement the GRAP IV.
The top court said that it has exempted schools that are required to switch to a fully online mode under GRAP-IV. The decision was taken considering that students who are facing difficulties in continuing their education in the online mode may switch to a hybrid model.
The bench said, “We make it clear that all GRAP IV measures except the measures which are modified in respect of the schools will continue to operate till Monday. In the meantime, Commission for Air Quality Management will hold a meeting and come out with the suggestion about moving from GRAP IV to GRAP III or GRAP II. We also make it clear that it is not necessary that all measures which are provided in GRAP IV should be dispensed with.”
Delhi schools in hybrid mode till December 2
On Monday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) asked the concerned authorities in Delhi-NCR to conduct classes in a ‘hybrid’ mode till class 12. However, the CAQM noted that not all primary schools in Delhi-NCR have the capabilities to conduct classes in online mode.
Following the SC order, several schools in Delhi NCR have decided to conduct classes in online mode with the aim of protecting the health of students. The authorities have also directed students to wear masks and restrict outdoor activities to curb health hazards caused by air pollution.
