Delhi schools shift to hybrid mode amid GRAP 4 enforcement
New Delhi: The Directorate of Education, Delhi government has issued a directive mandating the hybrid mode of classes for students in Delhi schools except for Class 10 and Class 12. The decision has been taken following the implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) 4 due to the increasing pollution levels in Delhi-NCR.
The Education Department’s order, effective immediately, allows schools to conduct classes either physically or online, based on feasibility. The order applies to all government, government-aided, unaided private schools and institutions under NDMC, MCD and the Delhi Cantonment Board.
The official notice reads, ‘The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas in its order No.120017/27/GRAP/2021/CAQM_1217 DT dated 15/01/2025 (Copy enclosed) has decided to straightway invoke all actions under Stage-III (‘severe’ Air Quality of Delhi) & also Stage-IV (‘Severe+ Air Quality of Delhi) of extant Schedule of GRAP with immediate effect in right earnest by all the agencies concerned in Delhi-NCR, in addition to the Stage-l and II actions already in force.’
‘Accordingly, all Heads of Schools of Govt., Govt. Aided, Unaided Recognized Private Schools of DoE, NDMC, MCD and Delhi Cantonment Board are directed to conduct classes in schools for children up to Class IX & XI in a ‘Hybrid Mode’ i.e., both in physical and online mode (wherever online mode is feasible) with immediate effect until further orders. All the Heads of Schools are hereby further directed to disseminate this information to the parents and guardians of the students immediately’, the notice further added.
The flexibility to attend classes online or offline aims to ensure continuity in classes while addressing health concerns arising from the hazardous air quality levels. This decision is likely to remain in force until the pollution levels improve with further updates.
