Delhi sees an upward spiral in Dengue, Malaria cases; check 5 foods to boost blood platelets

New Delhi: Dengue and malaria infections continue to be a significant threat in several parts of Delhi. According to a recent Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) report, dengue cases have crossed the 2,100 mark in the national capital in 2024 so far and 3 people have died due to the complications due to the rise in cases. As per reports, this is the first this year that the corporation has confirmed the dengue deaths, with officials stating the same has been the death audit committee of the civic body.

As per the MCD report, Delhi has recorded 485 dengue cases over the last week, whereas in 2023, Delhi recorded 19 dengue deaths and 9 deaths were recorded in 2022.

Dengue is an infectious disease that mainly spreads to human beings through infected mosquito bites. As per experts, dengue fever can have a varied range of complications like haemorrhagic fever and sudden deterioration. Earlier in a conversation with News9Dr Aklesh Tandekar, Head Consultant Critical Care, Wockhardt Hospitals Mira Road shared that when one has dengue, the virus is known to affect one’s bone marrow making it difficult for one to produce enough platelets.

Simple tips to improve the platelet count:

Green vegetables: It is rich in vitamin K are vital for blood clotting and also help in increasing platelet counts naturally

Milk: Milk is a great source of calcium and protein that is considered good for bone health and also increases the platelet counts

Papaya leaf extract: Papaya leaf juice is known to boost platelet counts in dengue patients. Having at least 1 tbsp spoon of papaya juice can really help.

Pumpkin: It is loaded with vitamin A and helps in boosting platelet counts in people suffering from Dengue.

Aloe vera: It is rich in anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties to boost the improve platelet levels.
