According to an official statement, NaMo India is the country’s first regional rapid transit system with a speed of 180 kilometers per hour. Namo India will be able to connect major urban centers like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut to Delhi faster. Sarai Kale Khan, the first station on the corridor, is one of the four NaMo Bharat stations opening with this inauguration.

This strategically important station is a ‘multi-modal hub’ that connects Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Pink Line of Delhi Metro, Veer Haqiqat Rai ISBT and Ring Road. The three other stations that are being opened – Namo Bharat Station Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram – are in Meerut. Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the Meerut Metro service between Meerut South and Modipuram, which will operate on NaMo India’s own infrastructure. This is the first initiative of its kind in the country.

Meerut Metro will be India’s fastest metro system, with a maximum operating speed of about 120 km per hour. This seamless integration of NaMo Bharat and Meerut Metro on a single infrastructure will enable high-speed inter-city travel and seamless intra-city mobility and set a precedent for integrated urban and regional transport in India. This will reduce congestion in road traffic and significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions from vehicles. Many prominent people including Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak were present on this occasion.
