Delhi Weather: Monsoon hit Delhi-NCR strongly for the first time. There was good rain throughout the day in most of the capital and surrounding areas, which brought great relief to the people from the humid heat that had been going on for several days. According to the Meteorological Department, at present the rain will continue and there is a possibility of intermittent rain for the next 4 days. In view of this, yellow alert has been issued for Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday was the rainiest day of this year. Due to continuous rain, the maximum temperature dropped by about 10 degrees Celsius, due to which the weather became completely pleasant. Due to the rain, people got relief from the scorching heat and humidity, although waterlogging and slow traffic conditions were also seen in many areas.

84 mm rain in Delhi

About 84 mm rainfall was recorded in many parts of the capital Delhi. Due to heavy rains the weather became pleasant and people got relief from the scorching heat. After the rain, there was a drop in temperature of about 22 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in Safdarjung recorded a drop of about 10 degrees Celsius between 1 pm and 2:30 pm. However, due to continuous rains, the humidity level in the air increased significantly and reached 100 percent, due to which the atmosphere remained humid.

Record of hottest night of July broken in 2 years

The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung Standard Observatory of the capital Delhi on Tuesday was 37.2 degrees Celsius, which was 0.6 degrees above normal. At the same time, the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.0 degrees Celsius, which is 2.1 degrees more than normal. According to the Meteorological Department, this was the hottest night of the month of July in the last two years. Earlier on July 31, 2024, the minimum temperature was recorded at 30.4 degrees Celsius, which was higher than this in July. Due to persistently high minimum temperatures, people had to face heat and humidity even at night.

Yellow alert in Delhi today and tomorrow

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain for the next four days in Delhi-NCR. Yellow alert has been issued for Wednesday and Thursday. These days there is a possibility of rain along with thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds. The sky will generally be cloudy throughout the day on Wednesday. Light rain may occur in many areas before noon, while moderate rain may occur at some places. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of lightning and strong winds blowing at a speed of up to 50 kilometers per hour. According to the Meteorological Department, the rainy season may start once again in the evening or night.

Chances of rain on Friday-Saturday also

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday is likely to be between 32 to 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be between 21 to 23 degrees Celsius. The weather pattern will remain almost the same on Thursday also. There are chances of light rain on Friday and Saturday also. According to meteorologist Mahesh Palawat, the main reason for the continuous rain in Delhi is the active Western Disturbance over Northern Pakistan, the low pressure area over Madhya Pradesh and the simultaneous activation of moist monsoon winds coming from the Arabian Sea.

Despite rain, AQI in ‘moderate’ category

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category despite heavy rains. The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 113 on Tuesday. As per CPCB norms 0–50: Good, 51–100: Satisfactory, 101–200: Moderate, 201–300: Poor, 301–400: Very poor, 401–500: Severe.
