Delhi Weather Update: Weather of Delhi-NCR will change in next 2 hours, alert issued for strong storm and rain

The Meteorological Department has issued a big warning for the people of Delhi-NCR. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of strong thunderstorm, lightning and moderate to heavy rain in the capital Delhi and its associated Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad within the next two hours on Thursday evening. During this period, the wind speed can reach 50 to 80 kilometers per hour, due to which normal life can be affected in many areas.

According to meteorologists, this period of rain can continue for about 30 to 45 minutes in any area. There is also a possibility of tree branches breaking and damage to electric poles and hoardings due to strong winds. In such a situation, people have been advised to avoid standing in open places, buildings under construction and under big trees.

Although the official entry of South-West Monsoon has not yet taken place in Delhi-NCR, the weather is continuously changing due to pre-monsoon activities. For the last few days, intermittent rains and strong winds have been continuing in the capital, which has brought relief from the heat, but continuous changes are being seen in the weather.

On Wednesday, scorching heat and humidity had troubled people throughout the day in the capital. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature recorded that day was 38.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 23.8 degrees Celsius. The maximum humidity was 85 percent and the minimum humidity was 51 percent. About 3 mm of rain was recorded in Delhi in the last 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department has also said that the effect of rain and strong winds may continue for the next two days in many parts of Haryana and Punjab adjacent to Delhi. The capital will remain partly cloudy throughout the day with a possibility of thunderstorms and light to moderate rain at some places.

Experts believe that after this rain the temperature will drop and people will get relief from humidity. However, due to strong winds, traffic may be affected and due to low visibility, drivers will need to take extra caution.

The Meteorological Department has predicted the maximum temperature for Thursday to be between 37 to 39 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature to be between 25 to 27 degrees Celsius. Light rain along with dust storm can also be recorded at some places.

Recently, humidity had increased the problems of people in cities like Ghaziabad, Noida and Gurugram. In such a situation, the weather is expected to be pleasant due to rain in the evening. However, the administration has appealed to the people to avoid unnecessary travel and keep an eye on the latest warnings of the Meteorological Department.

Talking about air quality, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the average Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi was recorded at 132 on Thursday morning, which falls in the ‘moderate’ category. AQI was recorded at 118 in Faridabad, 122 in Gurugram, 114 in Ghaziabad, 125 in Greater Noida and 128 in Noida. Meteorologists say that after the rain, further improvement in air quality may be seen.

The Meteorological Department has appealed to the citizens to stay in safe places during strong storms and rains, maintain distance from electric poles and trees and take utmost care while travelling. This trend of changing weather is likely to continue in Delhi-NCR for the coming few days.
