Demonstration of students regarding holding elections – ..

Nainital, 18 October (Hindustan Reporter). Students demonstrated on Friday in Kumaon University campus regarding holding of student union elections. This created an atmosphere of chaos in the campus. Due to the uproar by the students, the university administration was forced to close the main gate of the college. During this, the protesting students surrounded the Vice Chancellor and raised loud slogans against the government and the university administration.

Students say that the university administration had assured them that the student union elections would be conducted by October 25, but the notification for the same has not been issued yet. The students allege that they had to take this step due to delay on the part of the administration. The protesters warned that if the notification for student union elections was not issued soon, they would be forced to carry out violent agitation.

On the other hand, the university administration says that they have received a letter from the government, in which it has been asked why the student union elections were not conducted till September 30. The university administration has sent the reply to this letter to the government today and appropriate steps will be taken in this regard soon. In view of the situation, additional security arrangements have been made to maintain peace on the campus.
