During the Thana Samadhan Diwas organized at Handia police station premises, dozens of women of Bhiti village arrived demanding the removal of the government liquor shop and demonstrated vigorously. While submitting a memorandum to the officials, the women said that due to the liquor shop running in the village, the social environment of the area is being continuously affected and various types of problems are arising every day.

The women alleged that there is a gathering of anti-social elements around the liquor shop, due to which the women, girls and school girls of the village have to face problems in commuting. He said that many incidents of teasing and indecent remarks have come to light, due to which there is anger among the villagers.

The protesting women said that complaints had been made to the concerned authorities several times before to remove the liquor shop, but till now no concrete action has been taken. He warned that if the shop was not shifted elsewhere soon, the rural women would be forced to protest on a large scale.

Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), present at the police station resolution day, listened seriously to the complaint of the women. Instructions were given to the concerned officials to immediately investigate the allegations related to eve-teasing and law and order and take necessary action. Also assured the women that their complaints will be resolved as per rules.
