Dense fog in Delhi-NCR, after poisonous air now winter has become a new problem
New Delhi: The month of December is going on, but the cold has not been seen in its full colors yet. Despite fog in the morning and evening, people are waiting for the harsh winter. The temperature remains above normal, while due to slow wind speed, pollution has also reached critical levels. According to the Meteorological Department, the same weather pattern may persist in Delhi and surrounding areas for the next few days.
Why is there no severe cold in Delhi-NCR?
The minimum temperature recorded in Delhi at 6 am on Saturday was 11.6 degrees Celsius, which is high for this time. The maximum temperature of the day is also expected to reach 25 degrees Celsius. According to experts, the activity of western disturbance in North India is weak and cold winds are not able to reach the plains. For this reason, the cold is not intensifying, whereas due to high humidity the fog remains continuous.
The Meteorological Department says that till December 18, the minimum temperature in Delhi may remain between 9 to 10 degrees and the maximum temperature may remain between 24 to 25 degrees. During this period, a warning of light to dense fog has also been issued.
Effect of fog in many states including Uttar Pradesh
There is a possibility of dense fog in the morning in Uttar Pradesh between 13 and 15 December. There will be dense fog in the morning in Gorakhpur, Ballia, Kushinagar, Basti and Maharajganj of Eastern UP till 16-17 December. Visibility may be significantly reduced in areas like Bareilly, Moradabad and Ayodhya, due to which traffic is likely to be affected.
Delhi’s air is poisonous again
Along with the weather, the air of Delhi is also increasing the concern. On Saturday, the AQI of the capital was recorded at 387, which falls in the serious category. On Tuesday, AQI had improved to 282, but after that the pollution started increasing again. AQI was recorded beyond 400 in 18 areas of Delhi, including Wazirpur, Jahangirpuri, Vivek Vihar, Rohini and Anand Vihar. Experts say that low wind speed and foggy conditions are further trapping the pollution.
Chances of rain and snowfall in hilly states
According to the Meteorological Department, there may be light rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir between 13 and 18 December. There is a possibility of rain in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on December 14. Due to change in weather in these areas, cold winds may reach the plains in the coming days.
Cold wave in Punjab-Haryana
In North India, the maximum cold is falling in Jammu and Kashmir, where the minimum temperature has reached minus 5 degrees. A minimum temperature of 3.6 degrees was recorded in Adampur, Punjab. There are signs of increasing cold in Himachal, Chandigarh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, while cold wave conditions may persist in Chhattisgarh and Odisha for the next 7 days.
