Despite having a ticket, you will be considered a ticketless passenger, if you ignore this warning from the Railways.
News India Live, Digital Desk: This must have happened to most of us at some time or the other. You reach the station and see that your train is late, but there is another train standing on the same platform which is going towards your destination. In such a situation, the first thought that comes to mind is, “I have a ticket, I will leave by this train, at least I will reach early.” But wait! If you are thinking of doing this, be careful. Indian Railways rules say that it is mandatory for you to travel in the same train for which you have booked a ticket. One way, but a different ticket. Let us assume that you have taken a ticket for ‘Shatabdi Express’ going from Delhi to Lucknow. But in a hurry to reach, you board a ‘Superfast Express’ parked there. Even if you have a confirmed Shatabdi ticket, as soon as you step into another train, you become a ‘passenger without a ticket’ (With no valid ticket) in the eyes of the Railways. TTE and heavy fines When TTE comes to check the train, he will not listen to your excuses. As per the rules, your ticket will be considered invalid for that train. In such a situation, a penalty of at least Rs 250 can be imposed on you, and you may also have to pay the full fare for that journey again. In many cases, the fine amount can be more than your original ticket. Even more risk for those with waitlisted tickets. If you have an ‘E-ticket’ and it is left in waiting list, then do not board the general or any other compartment by mistake. Nowadays Railways has become very strict in this matter. Boarding without a confirmed e-ticket will attract a heavy fine and you will also be deboarded at the next station. What is the logic of the Railways? Actually, the ticketing system of the Railways works on the basis of seat and quota of each train. The data of one train is not linked to that of another train. When you board the wrong train, you not only violate the rules but also take up space for passengers on that train. The reality is that this hasty ‘shortcut’ can spoil both your budget and your mood. So next time whenever you go to the station, wait for your own train. If there is a serious emergency, then take permission from the railway officials or counter present on the platform, so that there is no hindrance in your journey. One wrong step of yours can put your safe and happy journey in trouble. Be aware and travel wisely!
