Details of Apple's upcoming MacBook Air, know what will be special in the laptop
Apple Oxide TFT LCD technology
TFT refers to the type of transistors used in the display, and oxide refers to the material used in those transistors. Compared to the amorphous-silicon (a-Si) TFT LCD currently used in the MacBook Air, oxide TFTs offer faster electron mobility. This results in smoother visuals and better performance on the display.
Apple has already introduced oxide TFT LCD displays in its high-end MacBook Pro models to be launched in 2022. So, it looks like the company is now bringing this technology to the more affordable MacBook Air. But it seems that Apple's adoption of oxide TFT LCD is the result of a larger plan gone wrong. In fact, the report claims that Apple originally intended to release the OLED MacBook Air around 2027. OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) displays are known for their better contrast and deeper blacks than LCD.
However, due to sluggish sales of the recently launched OLED iPad Pro, Apple has reportedly delayed the launch of its OLED MacBook. The decline in iPad Pro sales may be due to the steep price increases associated with OLED technology. Therefore, oxide TFT LCD seems to be a temporary solution to bridge this gap until Apple refines its OLED technology and reduces production costs. The OLED MacBook Air will likely hit the market around 2029, reports The Elec.
