Development or controversy? In Manipur, the road was built ignoring the rules, now there is a complete ban

News India Live, Digital Desk: Manipur has been in the news for a long time due to its internal circumstances, but this time the matter is different and quite shocking too. Imagine, on one hand the administration is engaged in improving security and law and order, and on the other hand an entire ‘ring road’ was constructed without any legal permission. Not only this, this road has also been named after people (militants) who have been controversial in the eyes of security agencies. What is the whole matter? This dispute is about an illegal ring road built in Manipur. When the matter reached the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the facts that emerged surprised everyone. Neither environmental clearance was taken nor any paper permission was sought from the local authority for the construction of this road. It is as if someone has bulldozed the forest and land on his own will. A road named after terrorists will definitely raise questions. Any public road is usually named after great men, martyrs or eminent persons. But what happened with this Ring Road is very serious in terms of national security and sensitivity. An attempt was made to name this road after some organizations and extremist leaders whose history has been associated with violence and instability. This has added fuel to the fire. Strict action by NGT. As soon as this matter reached the threshold of the court, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) did not delay at all in expressing its displeasure. The court clearly said that this kind of playing with nature and such blatant disregard for rules cannot be tolerated. The NGT has immediately imposed a complete ban on the use of this road and any further work. Impact on local people and environment The valleys of Manipur are known for their natural beauty. Building roads by cutting mountains without any study and approval is not only dangerous for the environment, but it also invites future disasters like landslides. This controversy related to extremism complicates the matter further. The simple question is, can anyone be powerful enough to get such a huge construction work done without coming under the radar of the government and the law? For now, this decision of NGT has put brakes on both the controversial ‘name’ and ‘work’.
