Dhamtari News: Dhamtari sets an example across the country, 4 modern warehouses will change the picture of agricultural storage.

Dhamtari warehouse project: Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh is creating a new record in the field of agriculture and cooperation. In the implementation of ‘World’s Largest Grain Storage Scheme’, an ambitious initiative of the Government of India, Dhamtari has set an example not only for the state but also for the country. ‘Hiring Assurance Letters’ have been issued to four big cooperative societies (PACS) of the district for construction of warehouses, which will change the picture of storage at the local level.

  • Warehouse Capacity: 4 packs (Anwari, Kosmarra, Potiyadih and Koliyari) will have capacity of 2500 MT each.
  • Bought bumper crop of gram: The target was 1 lakh quintals, out of which procurement of 97 thousand quintals has been completed.
  • Dominance in the state: About 50% of the total gram purchased in entire Chhattisgarh is from Dhamtari district alone.

Administrative promptness and preparation for the future

The result of coordination between NCCF Raipur and the district administration is that all the formalities (MOUs and agreements) related to the scheme have been completed on a war footing. To resolve the doubts at the ground level, communication will soon be held with NCCF Headquarters, New Delhi through video conferencing.

What is this scheme?

Launched by the Central Government on 31 May 2023, the objective of this scheme is to empower PACS (Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies). Through:

  • Construction of modern warehouses at village level.
  • Establishment of processing units and custom hiring centres.
  • Preventing wastage of food grains and providing fair price to farmers for their produce.

Dhamtari’s efficiency: inspiration for other districts

Even after reaching the target, the procurement process has not stopped in the district. The state of administrative efficiency is such that Dhamtari is now emerging as a ‘role model’ for other districts of the state. With this scientific system of storage, not only will the grains be safe, but there will also be a substantial increase in the income of the farmers due to reduced dependence on middlemen.
