Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday, saying his decision was made in the interest of students after the controversy surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 examination
The resignation came after protests over alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam. Soon after the announcement, Cockroach Janta Party founder Abhijeet Dipke reacted on social media and claimed credit for the development.
“We have done it. Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned,” Dipke said.
He further wrote, “This resignation is proof that if people do not get scared and do not bow down, they can hold anyone accountable.”
In his resignation message, Pradhan said he had always believed in the strength of democracy and respected the hopes and dreams of young people.
He wrote, “India’s youth are not only the future of the country but also the builders of a developed India.”
Pradhan said the developments of the previous 10 days had saddened him. He added that his decision was not about personal reputation but about protecting students and the country’s unity.
He stated, “I have sent my resignation to the Hon’ble Prime Minister after thinking about the future of students, so that no young person gets caught in legal complications and they can focus on their education and careers.”
In another statement, Pradhan reflected on his long association with education.
“For more than four decades, I have been associated with students, teachers and education reforms. I have always believed that a strong, inclusive and forward-looking education system is the foundation of a strong nation,” he said.
Referring to the NEET-UG issue, he said irregularities had been found in the examination held on May 3, 2026.
The former minister also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, members of the Union Cabinet, ministry officials and others who had worked with him during his tenure.
“From the very first day, I took responsibility for the situation and never turned away from it. My resolve was that no deserving student should suffer because of the examination controversy,” he said.
The resignation came as discussions over the NEET-UG examination continued across the country.
