Dhoni suffers injury, will miss first two weeks of IPL

Sanju Samson or Urvil Patel can do wicketkeeping in Dhoni’s absence

New Delhi, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) veteran player Mahendra Singh Dhoni will not be able to play in the first two weeks of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a calf injury. CSK said in a statement that Mahendra Singh Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation to recover from a calf injury. For this reason he is unlikely to play in the first two weeks of IPL 2026.

Dhoni has continued playing IPL since his retirement from international cricket in 2020. There are speculations every season about the future of this 44-year-old player in the IPL. Dhoni now plays only in IPL, so it becomes even more difficult for him to maintain match fitness. Although Ruturaj Gaikwad is the captain of the team, the team’s strategy revolves around Dhoni. He has been associated with this team since the beginning of IPL.

Dhoni played 14 matches in the last IPL and played the role of finisher while batting lower in the order. Since his retirement from international cricket, he has repeatedly suffered from knee problems and even had surgery in 2023. CSK will start their campaign in IPL 2026 against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati.
