Dhoni will be out for two weeks due to injury

New Delhi, 28 March 2026: Chennai Super Kings player Mahendra Singh Dhoni may stay away from the game for the first two weeks of IPL 2026 due to a leg injury, which has not yet fully recovered.

CSKA issued a statement in the morning confirming the news. The statement said, “Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation and will be out of action for the first two weeks.” Chennai will play its first match against Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati.

Sanju will do wicketkeeping

Earlier, team captain Ruturaj Gaikwade had said that Sanju Samson, who joined the team this season, will open with him and now it is clear that in Dhoni’s absence, he will also take up the responsibility of wicketkeeping. Samson is seen as a complete alternative to Dhoni in this team. Urvil Patel is the second option for the team as a wicketkeeper-batsman, and it would not be surprising if he gets a place in the playing eleven, but he will not be wicketkeeping.

Dhoni has been suffering from injuries for the last few seasons. His knee injury has been a big problem for him. After winning the 2023 ICC World Cup, Dhoni had undergone knee surgery. However, he is still struggling with it. After matches, he is often seen with bandages on his knees. This is the reason why he has come to bat less often and is batting lower in the order.
