Sameer Rizvi was born on 6 December 2003 and plays domestic cricket from Uttar Pradesh. He started showcasing his talent at an early age and has also represented India at the Under 19 level. His batting style is quite similar to that of Suresh Raina, due to which he is also called right-handed Suresh Raina on social media.
Rizvi started playing cricket at the age of 11 and practiced at the Gandhibagh Academy in Meerut. His maternal uncle Tanqib Akhtar trained him and inspired him to take cricket seriously. His talent was so special in his childhood that even Suresh Raina himself got impressed after seeing his fielding during a match and encouraged him.
Initially Rizvi was an opening batsman but later, seeing his strong batting against spin, he was sent to the middle order where he made his mark, although his journey was not easy. In the year 2020, his father suffered a brain haemorrhage, after which the responsibility of the family fell on his shoulders. Despite this, he did not divert his attention from cricket and continued working hard.
His real identity was made in the 2023 UP T20 League where he impressed everyone by scoring 455 runs. During this, he also scored a century in 47 balls. His explosive batting attracted the attention of IPL franchises.
In the IPL 2024 auction, MS Dhoni’s team Chennai Super Kings showed great confidence in him by spending Rs 8.40 crore. He made a great start by hitting a six on the very first ball of his debut match, however, the team released him after one season.
