Dhurandhar 2 screenings hit by glitches
Mumbai: Aditya Dhar has apologised after paid preview screenings of Dhurandhar: The Revenge were disrupted across several parts of India due to technical issues, causing delays and cancellations.
Chaos during preview screenings
The much-anticipated film, starring Ranveer Singh, witnessed a chaotic start as multiple theatres reported operational glitches affecting scheduled shows.
While Hindi screenings largely began as planned from 5 pm, dubbed versions in Tamil and Telugu were delayed until later in the evening. Screenings in Malayalam and Kannada were postponed further to the next day due to what the makers termed “unforeseen technical difficulties”.
Issues with dubbed versions
The disruptions were particularly severe in southern markets, where several theatres cited non-availability of content for dubbed versions. Many pre-booked shows had to be cancelled at the last minute, leaving audiences frustrated.
In key centres like Delhi NCR and Mumbai, cinema chains also faced issues such as delayed delivery of digital prints and temporary suspension of IMAX bookings.
Audience inconvenience and theatre response
At theatres like Gaiety Galaxy in Mumbai, large crowds gathered as delays extended, with staff requesting viewers to shift to later shows. In Greater Noida, screenings were reportedly held up due to non-receipt of the film print.
The situation led to confusion among ticket holders, with many unable to watch the film at their scheduled time.
Makers offer refunds
In response to the disruptions, the film’s team offered affected viewers refunds or the option to watch the Hindi version with subtitles.
Issuing a public statement, Dhar apologised for the inconvenience and assured audiences that efforts were underway to resolve the issues before the film’s full release.
Release plans remain unchanged
Despite the setbacks, the film is set for its worldwide release on March 19. Certified ‘A’ by the Central Board of Film Certification, the film has a runtime of nearly three hours and 49 minutes.
Apart from Ranveer Singh, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan and Rakesh Bedi.
Conclusion
While the initial disruptions have dampened the film’s preview momentum, the makers’ swift response and assurances may help restore audience confidence ahead of its official release. All eyes are now on whether the technical issues are resolved in time for a smooth nationwide rollout.
