‘Dhurandhar’ created history, became India’s longest trending film
Desk. It has been more than two months since Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ was released in theatres. This Ranveer Singh film has broken many records at the box office and has become the second highest grossing Bollywood film of all time. This huge earning was possible due to tremendous word of mouth, due to which Dhurandhar remained the number one film at the Indian box office every week. The film has been trending on online ticketing platform BookMyShow since its release. In fact, it is now the longest trending Indian film on the platform.
According to Sacnilk, as of mid-February, ‘Dhurandhar’ was trending for 59 days on BookMyShow, surpassing the all-time record of 58 days set by Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Chhaava’ in early 2025. Both films depended heavily on word of mouth and broke several box office records in the second and third weeks, resulting in longer theatrical runs than top Indian films. ‘Stree 2’ is another blockbuster driven by word of mouth, standing at the third position with 57 days.
According to BookMyShow, half of the ticket sales of most films happen on the platform. The list of top ten trending movies for the longest time on the platform also includes recent Bollywood blockbusters and Malayalam hit movies.
Made in the direction of Aditya Dhar, ‘Dhurandhar’ is a spy thriller, in which Ranveer Singh is in the lead role. It also stars Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt. The film received mostly positive reviews and was a blockbuster at the box office. The film has grossed Rs 1300 crore worldwide, including a record Rs 800 crore in India, the highest for any Hindi film. Its sequel, titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge. It is scheduled to release on March 19, barely three months after Part 1. The lead actors will reprise their roles in the sequel.
