Earlier, we reported about Dhyan Sreenivasan playing the lead in a film titled Detective Ujjwalan from the Weekend Blockbusters banner. The latest from the project is that production on it has commenced with a pooja function on Sunday. Scheduled for a 2025 release, the film is written and directed by debutant duo Indraneel Gopeekrishnan and Rahul G. Sophia Paul produces the film under Weekend Blockbusters. Earlier today, the production house also revealed a poster for the film, with a character wearing a mask and wielding an axe.
Billed as an investigative thriller with a humorous backdrop, Detective Ujjwalan also stars Siju Wilson. It also introduces Ameen, Nihal Nizam, Nibraz Noushad, and Shahubas—the quarter known for their social media content.
It will be the second project of Weekend Cinematic Universe (WCU), which started with the Tovino Thomas-Basil Joseph film Minnal Murali (2021).
In an earlier conversation with CE, co-director Indraneel remained tight-lipped about its plot and other cast details. On speculations about the film’s connection with Minnal MuraliIndraneel stated, “Much like how Iron Man and The Hulk were for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)—existing within the same world without being directly connected—Detective Ujjwalan serves as an expansion of the WCU, which also includes Minnal Murali.”
The technical team of Detective Ujjwalan includes Prem Akkattu and Sraiyanti for cinematography, RDX fame Chaman Chacko for edits, and Rzee for music composition.
