Did PCB put pressure on Babar Azam to leave the captaincy? Mohsin Naqvi replied

Pakistan Cricket Board: Pakistan team's star batsman Babar Azam had recently decided to step down from the captaincy of limited overs. Since then there were speculations that the board had put pressure on him to leave the captaincy. After this, now Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has given clarification on this. He has said that the bar had taken this decision to focus on its performance.

Pakistan's performance has not been anything special under Babar's captaincy

In 2019, Babar was made the captain of the Pakistani team. Since then, Pakistan has not won any major tournament. Last year, under his leadership, the team was eliminated from the Asia Cup after a two-wicket loss to Sri Lanka in Colombo. The team also had to face defeat in the ODI World Cup. Apart from this, the team was defeated by USA in the T20 World Cup 2024. Apart from this, it was also out of the T20 World Cup after losing to India.

Chief Mohsin Naqvi gave clarification

Regarding Babar leaving the captaincy, he said that Babar Azam himself told me that he does not want to be the captain anymore. No one from the PCB had asked him to leave the captaincy. He had discussed this with the coaches and said that he wanted to focus on his performance.

This big thing was said about Rizwan's captaincy

Regarding Rizwan's captaincy, he said, “We have talked to five mentors and coaches of the Champions Cup about this. “On this, we agreed that Mohammad Rizwan should be the captain, while Salman Ali Aga will be the vice-captain.”

Star wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan on Sunday took over as Pakistan's new white-ball captain, replacing Babar Azam. Next month, Pakistan has to play T20 and ODI series against Australia and Zimbabwe.
