Difficulties increased due to severe cold, dense fog and poisonous air in Delhi-NCR
Weather Update: The bitter cold continues in Delhi-NCR. Even on Sunday (January 18), the people of the capital are not expected to get respite from the cold. Due to cold winds and dense fog since Saturday night, the minimum temperature has dropped to 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature of the day is expected to be around 21 to 22 degrees Celsius. Due to fog in the morning, the sun will come out late and due to light clouds its warmth will also be limited.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather pattern in Delhi will remain almost the same for the coming few days. After January 20, the minimum temperature is likely to drop slightly to 7 to 8 degrees Celsius, although cold winds will still continue to trouble people.
Cold and fog continue in Delhi
The temperature was recorded between 4 to 6 degrees Celsius in the early hours of Sunday morning, due to which the effect of cold was felt more due to dense fog and cold winds. There is a possibility of a slight increase in the temperature as the day progresses and it may reach 21 to 23 degrees Celsius compared to the previous days. Visibility will remain low due to fog. There will definitely be sunshine in the afternoon, but the sky will remain partly cloudy. As the evening approaches, the cold winds will become stronger again and the chill will increase again. According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of cold will gradually reduce in the coming few days, although at present there is no possibility of rain.
The air in Delhi is extremely poisonous
Amidst the cold and dense fog, Delhi’s air has remained in very poor condition for a long time. In the morning the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 722, which falls in the extremely severe and dangerous category. Due to high amount of PM10 and PM2.5 particles in the air, the level of pollution is not reducing. According to experts, only strong winds or rain can improve the air quality, but at present there is no possibility of rain for the next few days.
No respite from cold and pollution
Overall, Delhiites are unlikely to get respite from cold, fog and poisonous air in the coming few days. In view of the increasing cold, the government has appealed to the people not to sleep in the open. For this, shelter homes have been established at many places, where proper accommodation arrangements have been made for the destitute and needy people. Besides, it has also been advised to wear a mask while going out to protect from pollution.
