Digital Census 2027: Digital census will be conducted in the country from 2027, will be completed in two phases, Union Cabinet approved the budget

New Delhi. A budget of Rs 11,718 crore has been approved for the 2027 census in the Union Cabinet meeting. For the first time, there will be a digital census across the country. For this, 30 lakh employees will be employed.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that today three big and important decisions have been taken in the cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The first decision is regarding Census 2027. Census which is a very big process of the country. A budget of Rs 11,718 crore has been approved for it. Secondly, a major reform has been done in the coal sector of the country – through Coal Setu. Third, a big step has been taken for the welfare of farmers. The Union Minister said that census will be conducted across the country from 2027. This census will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be House Listing and Housing Census, which will be from April to September 2026, while the second phase will be population census, which will be from February 2027.

He said that the digital design of the census has been prepared keeping in mind the Digital Design and Data Protection. Ashwini Vaishnav said that India is moving towards self-sufficiency in coal production. India has historically produced more than one billion tonnes of coal in 2024-2025. Our earlier dependence on coal imports has now almost reduced. We have saved Rs 60 thousand crores by reducing dependence on coal imports. Census of India is a comprehensive survey of the country’s population, demography, socio-economic status and distribution of resources. It is operated by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
