Digital Payments in Post Offices: The digital payment facilities made available for various services of the postal department are getting a great response from the customers, and the picture is showing a steady increase in digital transactions. Abhijit Bansode, Director, Pune Postal Sector, informed that due to UPI apps like Phone Pay, Google Pay through dynamic QR code and digital payments through SBI POS machines, the trend of customers is increasing towards digital transactions instead of cash transactions.
During the period of September to December, various post offices in four districts of Pune postal sector are successfully carrying out digital transactions on a daily basis. For all services such as speed post letters and parcels, money orders, bulk postal bookings, payment of various bills, ticket sales, purchase of philately tickets and franking machine recharge, the facility of digital payment by scanning QR code or through debit card has now been made available at every post office.

Digital payment facility saves customers time and eliminates the hassle of carrying cash or spare change. As a result over the counter transactions have become faster and easier, post office staff are actively helping to create awareness among customers about these facilities and providing relevant information. Digital transactions have increased transparency and the concept of ‘your mobile is your wallet’ is becoming a reality. The Director of the Pune Postal Department expressed the belief that the use of digital payments will further increase in the future and the ‘Digital India’ initiative will get more strength through the Department of Posts.

More than 71.85 digital transactions were recorded in the month of September, generating a revenue of around Rs. 63.30 lakh, in the month of October, the number of digital transactions crossed one lakh and the revenue reached to Rs. 1.29 crore. In the two months of November and December. More than Rs 1.50 crore revenue has been generated from digital transactions. Thus, in the previous quarter, a total of around 3.62 lakh digital transactions was reported to have generated a revenue of approximately Rs 3.88 crore.
