In this seminar which lasted for more than two hours, only women’s safety was discussed. Most emphasis was given on strengthening the Mission Shakti Centres. Officials were given strict instructions that all the registers running at the police stations should be kept in perfect order – if even a single page is missing or a wrong entry is found, direct action will be taken.
When and where did the meeting take place? (When and Where)
This important review seminar was organized on Thursday in the big auditorium of Reserve Police Lines, Moradabad. The meeting started in the afternoon and continued till evening.
Why was such a big meeting called? (Why)
Complaints of crimes related to women have increased in the district in the last few months. Cases like molestation, domestic violence, dowry harassment were continuously coming to light. On top of that, under the Mission Shakti Abhiyan, centers were built at the police stations, but at many places paper horses were running. In view of this, the DIG and SSP called the entire team together and gave strict instructions.
How will women’s security become more strict now? (how)
- Now all the registers of Mission Shakti Center of every police station will be checked every week.
- Immediate preventive action will be taken against those who commit crimes against women – whether Goonda Act has to be imposed or it has to be banned.
- Immediate FIR and fast charge sheet in every case of molestation, assault, dowry
- Awareness campaign regarding helpline numbers like 1090, 112, 181, 1098 will be conducted in every village and locality.
- Girls will be given training in self-defense and legal rights by going to schools and colleges.
DIG G. Muniraj said, “Women’s safety is our first priority. If any policeman is negligent, he will face consequences. We want every woman to be able to leave the house even at night without any fear.”
SSP Satpal Antil clearly told the police station officers, “Now there will be no excuses. The police station which receives the least number of complaints of crime against women will be honoured, and the accountability of the in-charge of the police station which receives the most complaints will be fixed.”
Now information about women’s helpline will reach every street
It was also decided in the meeting that a large-scale awareness campaign would be conducted in the entire district in the coming 15 days. Posters will be put up in chaupalas, schools, Anganwadi and markets. Especially numbers 1090 (Women Power Line), 112 (Emergency), 181 (Women Helpline) and 1098 (Child Helpline) will be visible everywhere.
Officials say that as soon as these instructions come on the ground, there will be a huge decline in crimes against women in the district. Now it remains to be seen how quickly these strict instructions show effect.
