Digvijay Singh lashed out at Bhagwat's statement about 'true independence', said- RSS chief should apologise.
Gwalior: Congress leader Digvijay Singh expressed displeasure over Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat's statement about “true freedom”. He has demanded an apology from Bhagwat. Bhagwat had said on Monday that the date of Ram Lalla's death in Ayodhya should be celebrated as 'Pratishtha Dwadashi', because the country, which had been facing enemy attacks for many centuries, got true independence on this day.
Digvijay Singh accused Bhagwat of disrespecting martyrs like Bhagat Singh and said that the RSS had supported the British Raj. The Congress leader claimed that RSS leader Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who founded the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, had been a minister in the coalition government with the Muslim League in Bengal.
When asked about the RSS chief's remarks, the Congress leader said that he has disrespected the sentiments of lakhs and crores of people. This is an insult to Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi who sacrificed their lives. Singh said that Mohan Bhagwat has insulted the freedom fighters and he should apologise. He claimed that when the Constitution was adopted, the RSS had openly opposed it. Its copies were burnt. They don't remember this.
Recalling the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and common citizens in the freedom struggle, Singh said this is an insult to the freedom fighters who fought against the British rule and faced bullets and sticks. He said that RSS people supported the British Raj and formed the government with the Muslim League. The former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh said that Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was the Deputy Chief Minister (Finance Minister) of Bengal and the Chief Minister was from the Muslim League.
