Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour becomes the country’s biggest concert; Revenue of Rs 943 crore, employment to 1 lakh more people!
Diljit Dosanjh (Diljit Dosanjh) created a new history in India through his ‘Dil-Luminati Tour’ in the year 2024. This tour was not just a music concert, but it also brought huge economic benefits to the country. This tour took place in more than 10 cities of India in two months. This included cities like New Delhi (26 October 2024), Hyderabad (15 November), Ahmedabad (17 November), Lucknow (22 November), Pune (24 November), Kolkata (30 November), Bengaluru (6 December), Chandigarh (23 December) and Guwahati (29 December). Its last show took place in Guwahati, which ended the year with a bang.
Overall, 13-14 shows were held in India and more than 3 lakh 20 thousand people bought tickets and participated in these shows. Now a big company named Ernst & Young (EY) has released a report on this tour. According to this report, this India tour of Diljit brought a benefit of approximately Rs 943 crore to the economy of the entire country, that is, this much money traveled around the country in different ways and people and businesses benefited. It has become India’s highest-grossing concert tour ever.
What is included in this Rs 943 crore?
- Direct Revenue: Approximately Rs 276 crore. This includes earnings from things like ticket sales, sponsorships and food and drinks at concerts.
- A major part of it (about 80%) came from ticket sales. Most of the tickets are sold online on Zomato Live app, which means buying tickets digitally has now become very common.
- The remaining money came indirectly: approximately Rs 553 crore. This money was spent when people went to other cities to watch the concert, stayed in hotels, ate food, traveled, bought goods from local shops, took taxis etc. This means that all the businesses around the concert came alive.
- The government also benefited, like about Rs 114 crore came from GST and other taxes.
Did more than 1 lakh people get employment?
This tour not only earned money but also provided work to many people. The report says that this created employment of 1 lakh 18 thousand human days. This means that so many people got work for many days – like stage makers, light-sound people, hotel staff, travel agents, food shops, local vendors etc. Another special thing is that 38% of the people who came to these shows came from other cities. More than half of these people extended their journey, that is, they not only returned after watching the concert, but also spent time and money in travelling. Tourism and hotel business benefited a lot from this.
What if blackmarketing ended?
Especially a lot of people came from tier-2 and tier-3 cities. 49% of the spectators coming for the entire tour were from such cities. Earlier, Punjabi music and such big shows were mostly limited to Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, but now people’s income is increasing even in small cities and they are ready to spend on such fun experiences. If the problem of black marketing is completely eliminated in the future, then more tickets will be sold at the actual price and the direct money could be even more because in this tour too, tickets were sold at higher prices in the black market at many places. Overall, Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour was not just a singing and playing concert. It was a huge cultural and economic explosion, spreading happiness, jobs, tourism and money across the country. This shows how powerfully good live events can boost the economy.
