Big step by Jharkhand government, rescue center will be built to control human-elephant conflict; The cost will be Rs 1 crore
Jharkhand News: In view of the increasing incidents of human-elephant conflict in the Kolhan region, a modern rescue center for elephants will be built in Dimna, Jamshedpur. The Forest Department has approved this plan. This will be the first elephant rescue center of Kolhan region to be built at a cost of about one crore rupees. It is likely that its construction will start from the month of April.
The center will be built on 7 hectares of land
This rescue center will be developed on about 7 hectares of land near Dimna Lake. Injured, sick or stray elephants will be brought here and treated, cared for and rehabilitated. All necessary facilities like kitchen, feeding centre, operation theater (OT), quarantine area, water source and secure enclosure will be available in the centre.
There will be a reduction in the incidents of death of elephants
At present, injured elephants in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts of Kolhan have to be sent to Tata Steel Zoo Hospital for treatment. Due to this, treatment gets delayed and sometimes the condition of elephants becomes serious. With the construction of a new rescue center, timely treatment will be available and the incidents of elephant deaths are expected to reduce.
Government allotted land
Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary DFO Saba Alam Ansari said that this center is an important step towards wildlife conservation. The government has allotted land for this. With this, elephants will be able to get immediate medical care.
Technical training should also be given to villagers
Around 27 people have died in elephant attacks in the last few months in several districts of the state—including Ramgarh, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Chaibasa, Jamshedpur, Lohardaga, Gumla and Dumka. Taking these incidents seriously, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed that a special elephant rescue team should be formed in the affected areas. Villagers should be given technical training and equipment like torches, torches, solar sirens should be made available so that elephants can be safely kept away from the villages.
