Bengaluru: In view of the warning of heavy rain in Bengaluru by the Meteorological Department, Disaster Response Force personnel have been deployed to deal with the situation. Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said that around 60 personnel of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed in the city. “We are deploying 40 additional personnel for any requirement,” he said. We have also asked fire and emergency services to be prepared to deal with any situation.”

Bengaluru recorded 66.1 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Wednesday. Earlier on Tuesday also, due to incessant rains, many parts of the city were submerged. At the same time, life also remained disrupted due to traffic disruption. Schools remained closed in Bengaluru Urban district on Wednesday as heavy rains led to waterlogging and traffic disruption at various places in the city, while many private companies in the city have asked their employees to work from home.

Heavy rain forecast till October 18

The IMD had predicted heavy rain and thundershowers and lightning in many parts of Karnataka on Wednesday. In these, the coastal, northern interior and southern IMD of the state have predicted the weather to remain like this in many parts of the state till October 18. According to the Meteorological Department, the city is likely to remain cloudy for the next three to four days.

Recommending work from home to employees

Due to continuous rains and the forecast of the Meteorological Department, Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society has recommended work from home option for employees. In a statement, it said, “We are prioritizing the safety and well-being of all people working in IT, BT and private companies based in Bengaluru. “Due to floods, waterlogging and traffic disruption, transport systems may be affected, making commuting to office premises risky.”

Many trains canceled due to waterlogging

Railway services were also disrupted due to rain. Regarding this, an official of South-Western Railway said that there was waterlogging in the Up Fast Line on bridge number 114 between Basin Bridge Junction (Chennai) and Vyasarpadi station. Due to this some trains were cancelled. The canceled trains include Train No. 20623 Mysuru-KSR Bengaluru Malgudi Express, Train No. 20624 KSR Bengaluru-Mysuru Malgudi Express and Train No. 16022 Mysuru-Dr. MGR Chennai Central Kaveri Express is included. The Purple Line of Bengaluru Metro was also disrupted for some time due to the conditions created by rain and storm. Here, metro operations had to be stopped for some time due to trees falling on the line.
