Diwali Related Event: The festival of Diwali is not limited only to the tradition of Deepotsav, but this festival also has historical and mythological significance. Come, let us know other interesting things related to Diwali.

1. The practice of worshiping Lakshmi on Diwali is first found in 'Shri Sukta' of Rigveda, which is much before the time of Lord Rama. In 'Vishnudharmottara Purana' she has been worshiped as Swarna Lakshmi, Griha Lakshmi and Jai Lakshmi. Jain and Buddhist texts of the sixth century BC also mention the worship of Lakshmi in the form of Mahalakshmi, Kumarika and Chakrashwari. In the Maurya dynasty, Gupta dynasty, Shunga and Satavahana periods also, inscriptions of Gaj Sevika and Gaj Lakshmi form are found. The idols of Lakshmi in the form of Padma Hasta, Padmasthata and Padmavasini are still present in the museum of Mathura.

2. Maryada Purushottam Lord Ram along with his brother Lakshman and wife Sita returned to Ayodhya from 14 years of exile after killing Ravana and others on this day. Also his coronation took place. In this joy, the people of Ayodhya celebrated the festival of Diwali by decorating the entire Ayodhyapuri with lamps.
3. On the day of Kartik Amavasya, Lord Shri Krishna first went to the forest with the cowherd boys to graze the cows. On his return in the evening, Gokul residents welcomed him by lighting lamps from house to house.

When the great and generous King Bali conquered all the three worlds with his might, on the request of the gods who were afraid of Bali, Lord Vishnu took the form of Vaman and asked for three steps of earth as a donation from King Bali. The great king Bali, despite understanding everything, did not disappoint the petitioner and donated three steps of earth. Lord Vishnu covered all three worlds in three steps. Impressed by the bravery and charity of King Bali, Lord Vishnu not only returned him the kingdom of the underworld but also assured him that the people of the earth will always celebrate Diwali every year in his memory.
7. On the same day of Diwali, Goddess Lakshmi took the form of Mahakali to kill the demons. When Mahakali's anger did not subside even after killing the demons, then Goddess Mahakali's anger ended just by touching the body of Lord Shiva. In memory of this incident, worship of her peaceful form Lakshmi started. Which is still done.
8. Maharaja Dharamraj Yudhishthir performed Rajsurya Yagya on this day. Therefore, happiness was celebrated by lighting lamps in his worship at night.
9. According to the legend, when Maharaj Ganesh Swami ended his earthly life, the kings of 18 states gathered and said that the light of knowledge has been extinguished. Therefore, now the lamps should be lit.
10. Sage Uddalak had donated his son Nachiketa to Yamraj. In Yamalok, Nachiketa attained the knowledge of Brahmalok. In this happiness, on this day Prakashotsav was celebrated by lighting lamps everywhere in the world of death.
11. According to Kautilya Arthashastra, written in the fourth century BC, Dravidian people used to celebrate Deepdan Mahotsav by lighting lamps on a large scale in temples and ghats on the occasion of Kartik Amavasya. They also used to dance with torches and ride animals (buffaloes and bulls).
12. When Gautam Buddha, the originator of Buddhism, returned to his home town Kapilvastu after 17 years, his followers celebrated Diwali by lighting lakhs of lamps to welcome Gautam Buddha. Also, Mahatma Buddha had given a new dimension to Diwali by giving the slogan 'Appon Deepo Bhava' during his first sermon.
13. Emperor Ashoka started the campaign of Digvijay on this day. The lamp was donated in this happiness.

15. Mahavir Swami, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, also attained Nirvana on the day of Diwali. Therefore Mahavir Nirvana Samvat starts from its second day. That is why in many provinces it is considered the beginning of the rainy season. It is said in the ancient Jain text 'Kalpa-Sutra' that to compensate for the inner light which has been extinguished forever with the Nirvana of Mahavir Swami, we should light a lamp symbolizing the external light.

16. Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj, sacrificed his life in Ajmer on this day in 1883. Hence this day has special significance in Arya Samaj.
17. Swami Ramtirtha also appeared on this earth on the day of Diwali and left his body on this day in 1906. Apart from this, he took retirement on the same day of Diwali.

18. During the reign of Emperor Akbar, the originator of Deen-e-Ilahi, a big sky lamp was hung on a 40 yards high bamboo in front of the Daulatkhana on the day of Diwali. Akbar himself used to participate in Govardhan Puja and inspect the cows. During the reign of Shah Alam II, the entire royal palace was decorated with lamps. A fair was organized in the Red Fort, in which both Hindus and Muslims participated. Emperor Jahangir also celebrated Diwali with great pomp. India's last emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar also celebrated Diwali as a festival and also participated in various programs organized on this occasion.
19. On the day of Kartik Amavasya, the sixth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Hargobind Singh ji returned to Amritsar after being freed from the captivity of Emperor Jahangir.

21. Demon king Hiranyakashyap was unhappy with the devotion of his son Prahlad to Vishnu and wanted to kill him. For this, he tried many measures but could not get success, then he got angry, picked up a sword and went to kill him himself. The demon king was blessed with a boon that he would die neither during the day nor at night, neither inside the house nor outside, nor by any weapon. For this reason he considered himself immortal. It was the evening time of Kartik Amavasya. Vishnu devotee Prahlad was tied to a pillar. When the demon king attacked with the sword, the pillar broke with a terrible roar and Lord Narasimha appeared. The head is like a lion and the rest of the body is like a human. Neither a complete human being, nor a complete animal, nor a weapon. Lord Narasimha killed the demon king with just his nails. On the death of the demon king, the people celebrated Diwali by lighting ghee lamps.
22. Mahalakshmi appeared during the churning of the ocean on the day of Diwali. The gods accepted her as the wife of Lord Vishnu and got them married.
23. When Nachiketa went to Yama to know the secret of birth and death, Yamraj tested Nachiketa in many ways. Nachiketa was successful every time. Yamraj was very pleased with Nachiketa's dedication and fearlessness and gave him the knowledge of victory over death. On the return of Nachiketa, the people of the earth welcomed him by lighting ghee lamps. It is said that this was the first Diwali of Aryavrata.

24. Emperor Samudra Gupta Ashokaditya Priyadarshan had announced his victory on the day of Diwali.
25. Emperor Chandragupta II had defeated three lakh Shakas and Huns in a battle on the same day of Diwali, 269 years before Christ. In whose joy the people of his kingdom celebrated by lighting innumerable lamps.
26. Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan had escaped from Hazaribagh Central Jail on the day of Diwali during the 'Quit India Movement' of 1942.
