Diwali Muhurat trading: Buying was seen in the stock market in a special one-hour Muhurta trading session on Friday, November 1. A good rise was seen in Nifty and Sensex. The benchmark Sensex closed at 79724 with a gain of 335 points or 0.42 per cent and started the new Samvat 2081 with a gain. Nifty closed at 24304 with a gain of 99 points.

Muhurta trading is a symbolic one-hour trading session organized by stock exchanges on the occasion of Diwali, marking the beginning of the new Samvat year and the beginning of the new ledger by trading.

During the trading session in Muhurat trading, 336 stocks touched the upper circuit with gains, while at least 40 stocks touched the lower circuit with losses. According to BSE data, 118 shares touched 52-week high and 11 shares touched 52-week low.

Eight stocks in BSE 500 index touched the upper circuit today. These shares were – Aditya Birla, Sun Life AMC Limited, Crisil Limited, Fortis Healthcare Limited, Jubilant Pharmova Limited, Poly Medicure Limited, Piramal Pharma Limited, Suven Pharmaceuticals Limited and UTI Asset Management Company Limited.

Sensex opened with gains on Friday and remained in positive territory throughout the special session due to buying in banking, auto and oil and gas stocks.

If we look at Nifty 50 shares, Mahindra & Mahindra had the highest rise of 3.29 percent, Adani Ports rose by 1.26 percent, Tata Motors rose by 1.14 percent and Axis Bank rose by 0.92 percent.

Nestle, NTPC, Reliance, ITC Titan, Kotak Bank, Infosys and TCS also gained. HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra and ICICI Bank declined.

Diwali Muhurat trading: Samvat 2080: Stock market performance

In the last Samvat 2080, which ended on Thursday, BSE Sensex had gained 14,484.38 points or 22.31 percent and Nifty had gained 4,780 points or 24.60 percent.

During this period, investors' wealth increased by Rs 124.42 lakh crore to Rs 4,44,71,429.92 crore (5.29 trillion US dollars).

On Thursday, BSE Sensex fell 553.12 points or 0.69 per cent, while NSE Nifty fell 135.50 points or 0.56 per cent. In October, the BSE benchmark index fell sharply by 4,910.72 points or 5.82 per cent and the Nifty fell by 1,605.5 points or 6.22 per cent.
