Actually, this time Kartik Amavasya is going to last for two days i.e. on 31st October and 1st November. Due to which people are in dilemma that on which day will Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha be worshiped on Diwali and when will the festival of lights be celebrated? The correct answer to these questions is 31 October. It has been unanimously decided to celebrate Diwali on 31st October in the Dharma Sabha organized by All India Academic Council at Central Sanskrit University, Jaipur. According to Vaidehi, Rishikesh and University Almanac, the festival of Diwali should be celebrated unanimously on 31st October. According to Kashi Vidvat Parishad, Diwali will be celebrated on Thursday, 31st October. The decision of the Council is universally accepted throughout the country. The scholars of Kashi are also unanimous on this.
Reason for celebrating Diwali on 31st October
This year, the Amavasya of Kartik month will start on 31st October at 3.52 pm and will continue till 6 pm the next day i.e. 1st November. Therefore, Amavasya Tithi will remain valid on both the days. Since Goddess Lakshmi and Kali are worshiped on Diwali after Pradosh Kaal. The auspicious time of Lakshmi Puja on October 31 will be from 5:37 pm (Pradosh Kaal) to 8:11 pm, whereas on November 1, there will be only a few minutes of Amavasya Tithi during Pradosh Kaal and there will be no time for puja. In such a situation, it is appropriate to celebrate Diwali on 31st October due to Amavasya in both Pradosh Kaal and midnight.
