Djokovic Announces Andy Murray as Coach for 2025 Australian Open

Novak Djokovic, the former World No.1, has named his erstwhile adversary Andy Murray as his coach for the upcoming 2025 Australian Open.

The 37-year-old Serbian announced via social media that his long-time friend and rival, Murray, who retired at the Paris Olympics earlier this year, will commence his coaching role from the next Australian Open in Melbourne.

Born just a week apart in May 1987, Djokovic and Murray ascended to the pinnacle of the ATP Rankings, facing off in 36 head-to-head matches, with Djokovic leading with 25 victories. Their rivalry included 19 final appearances, seven major championships, and the 2016 ATP Finals, with their last match being the 2017 Doha final.

In a video message, Djokovic expressed his enthusiasm for the new chapter, stating, “We’ve had some of the most epic battles in our sport. They’ve labeled us as game-changers, risk-takers, and history-makers. Just when I thought our story was complete, it appears there’s one last chapter. It’s time for one of my fiercest competitors to join my corner. Welcome aboard, Coach Andy Murray.”

Djokovic conveyed his excitement about Murray joining his team, remarking on his official website, “Having one of my greatest rivals by my side as my coach is thrilling. I eagerly anticipate beginning the season with Andy and having him in my corner in Melbourne, where we’ve both experienced remarkable moments.”

Murray shared his enthusiasm for their partnership, stating, “I will be part of Novak’s team during the preparation phase, ensuring he’s in top form for the Australian Open. I’m thrilled about this opportunity and look forward to being on the same side of the net for once.”
