DMK leader Udhayanidhi again played the old tune, said in the assembly – Sanatan Dharma, which divides the society, has to be abolished.

Chennai, 12 May. Former Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin’s son and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Udhayanidhi Stalin, once again singing the same old tune, has made a big attack on ‘Sanatan Dharma’ and said that it is a factor that divides the society and it has to be eliminated.

Starting his innings as the Leader of Opposition in the 17th Assembly of the state, Udhayanidhi, in his maiden speech before Chief Minister Thiru Vijay on Tuesday, accused the Sanatan ideology of dividing the society and reiterated the call to root it out. During his address in the Assembly, he said, ‘Sanatan is an ideology which tries to divide people. It should be clearly eliminated.

It is noteworthy that when Udhayanidhi Stalin had expressed similar sentiments in 2023, it had created a big controversy. He had to face severe criticism as well as legal action from various Hindu organizations. Now that he has again repeated the same statement regarding Sanatan Dharma, it is considered certain that the political temperature will rise once again.

Udhayanidhi Stalin in his speech expressed his gratitude to the people of Chepauk constituency from where he has won the election. He also thanked the leaders of his alliance parties. He met the newly elected Speaker of the Assembly J.C.D. Also congratulated Prabhakar and Deputy Speaker Ravi Shankar.

DMK will act as constructive opposition

Stalin also said that his party DMK would act as a constructive opposition. He said, ‘DMK has always been a creative force. Even though we sit opposite each other in the House, when it comes to the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu, we have to stand together. Tamil Nadu Assembly should set an example for other states. This new government should also work for those who did not vote for it. Government should belong to everyone.

Udhayanidhi in his address said that he and Chief Minister Vijay have studied from the same college. But in the field of politics he considered himself senior to Vijay. He also asked Chief Minister Vijay to share his political experience. Chief Minister Vijay smiled at this offer of Stalin.

Stalin said that this time within the House, the ranks of the opposition parties stand as strong as the ruling party. He further said – ‘Just as a rein works to guide a bull, or brakes work to control a vehicle, the opposition also works for the ruling party. We resolve to act as a constructive opposition.

The government was criticized for playing the national anthem third in the oath ceremony.

However, the DMK leader slammed the government for playing the state anthem at the third number during the swearing-in ceremony. He said, ‘The Governor’s address is going to be delivered soon. We cannot and will not allow this mistake to be made again. ‘Tamil Thai Vazhthu’ (state song) must be given the first place, not only within the Assembly, but in every government program and every function held in Tamil Nadu.’

He urged the State Government to ensure that there is never any compromise with this established tradition. He stressed that one must be extremely vigilant to protect one’s rights and traditions.
