Married to sister Lata Mangeshkar’s secretary at the age of 16
Asha Bhosle’s career had just started when at the age of 16, she married sister Lata Mangeshkar’s secretary Ganpat Rao Bhosle. Ganpat Rao was about 20 years older than Asha. This relationship was not accepted by Lata Mangeshkar and her family. Because of this, there was distance in the relationship between Asha and Lata Mangeshkar, which remained for a long time. But Asha Bhosle went against her sister and family and chose her love. In an old interview, Asha Bhosle had said about her marriage, ‘The husband’s family was conservative, it could not accept a singing star. When I was about to give birth to my younger son Anand, the family asked me to return to my maternal home. However, the marriage of Asha Bhosle and Ganpat Rao could not last long. Both separated after 11 years. Asha Bhosle had three children from Ganpat Rao.
Second marriage with RD Burman, six years younger to him
After separation from Ganpat Rao and breakdown of her first marriage, love blossomed again in Asha Bhosle’s life. This time he found his love in veteran musician RD Burman (Pancham Da). However, this love story of Asha was also not easy, because RD Burman was about six years younger than her. That is why when 47 year old Asha Bhosle proposed marrying RD Burman, Pancham Da’s mother did not agree to it. When Pancham Da told his mother about his marriage with Asha, she clearly said that ‘this marriage will take place on my dead body.’ The reason for the protest was that Asha Bhosle was 6 years older than RD Burman and was the mother of three children. However, later both of them got married in 1980 and the couple gifted many memorable songs to the music world. The marriage of both of them lasted till RD Burman said goodbye to this world in 1994.
