Does gas form when eating cabbage? Adopt these methods, your stomach will remain light

Cabbage is one of the most common vegetables in the Indian kitchen during the winter season. From parathas to vegetables and salads, cauliflower adds to the glory of the plate in many forms. But many people definitely complain about it – the problem of gas, heaviness and bloating in the stomach after eating cabbage. In such a situation, the question arises whether cabbage is harmful for health or the way of consuming it is wrong?

According to experts, cabbage in itself is a very nutritious vegetable. Fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and antioxidants are found in abundance in it. However, cabbage contains some carbohydrates and sulfur compounds that require more effort for the intestines to digest. This is the reason why many people feel the problem of gas and flatulence after eating cabbage.

If you are also troubled by bloating caused by cabbage, then there is no need to abandon it completely. You just need to change the way of consuming it a little.

First of all, eat cabbage only after cooking it thoroughly. Raw or undercooked cabbage is more heavy to digest. While preparing vegetables, cooking them thoroughly on low flame reduces its gas producing elements. At the same time, consuming cabbage in the form of salad can increase the problem of gas, especially in those people whose digestive system is weak.

Another important solution is proper use of spices. Adding digestion enhancing spices like asafoetida, cumin, celery, fennel or ginger to cabbage vegetable reduces the chances of gas and bloating to a great extent. In Indian kitchen, these spices are used not only for taste but also for the purpose of improving digestion.

Third, it is important to pay attention to the quantity of cabbage eaten. Eating too much cabbage puts pressure on the stomach. It is better to eat it in limited quantities and by mixing it with other vegetables, so that digestion remains balanced.

Apart from this, soaking the cabbage in lukewarm salt water for some time before cooking it is also considered beneficial. This reduces some of the gas producing elements present in cabbage.

Experts also recommend avoiding drinking water immediately after eating cabbage. This can slow down the digestion process and increase the problem of bloating. Walking for a while after eating also helps in keeping the stomach light.
