Doctor sleeping, sweepers got the delivery done, commotion in GT Nursing Home after death of newborn

  • Mother’s condition critical, doctor did not come even after information
  • Three hours of sloganeering and commotion, hospital denied the allegations

Bhaskar Bureau
Kanpur. The doctor loved sleep more than the life of the mother and child, that is why despite being informed about the emergency, he did not bother to reach the hospital. As a result, the cleaning workers along with the nurse of the operation theater somehow got the delivery done. During this time, if something went wrong, the mother and child were sent to the ICU and refused to give any information. After waiting for a long time, when the family put pressure, they were told that the newborn had died, while the condition of the mother was critical. The hospital staff said that the doctor was informed about his critical condition over phone, but he has not arrived yet. Angered by the negligence of the hospital management, the family members started creating ruckus and sloganeering. After three hours, the police reached the spot and pacified the matter.

Mother herself, health officer in Kannauj
The matter is related to GT Nursing Home located in Rawatpur Gutaiya. Mayank Tripathi, resident of Mandhana in Bithoor police station area, is a software engineer in a multinational company based in Gurgaon, while his wife Deva Smita is a community health officer in Kannauj. During pregnancy, Mayank had been continuously getting his wife examined and treated at GT Nursing Home. On Saturday evening, his wife was admitted to the hospital due to labor pain. It is alleged that the doctor did not come despite being called. In such a situation, early on Sunday, the OT assistant, nurse and cleaning staff together got the wife to have a normal delivery, but for a long time the hospital staff did not tell anything about the mother and child.

Confessed to death after six hours
According to Mayank, after an hour when pressed, the hospital management told him about being admitted to the ICU citing his critical condition, but did not allow him to meet him. When the family started creating ruckus, they were told that the newborn had died. After this, the family members raised slogans and blamed the hospital. After about three hours of uproar, the Swaroop Nagar police somehow convinced and pacified the angry relatives. The police sent the body of the newborn for post-mortem late in the evening. Police station in-charge Devendra Singh said that the post-mortem is being conducted late at night using panel and videography. Based on the complaint, a report will be filed after investigation. On the other hand, hospital director Dr. Vinay Gupta said that Dr. Vandana Gupta had given a normal delivery, but when the child’s condition deteriorated, he was kept in NICU, where he died six hours later. The allegation of delivery being conducted by OT assistants, nurses and sweepers is false.
