The U.S. dollar jumped against the Vietnamese dong on the black market Tuesday morning.
The greenback rose 0.74% to VND27,390 at unofficial exchange points.
Vietcombank kept its rate unchanged at VND26,321.
Globally the U.S. dollar drifted on Tuesday as traders weighed developments in the Iran conflict, while the Australian dollar eased slightly ahead of an expected rate hike from the country’s central bank later in the day, Reuters reported.
The euro was 0.12% lower at $1.1492 in Asian trading, while sterling was also down 0.1% at $1.33, pulling back the sharp gains from the previous session. The dollar index was little changed at 99.913.
Surging oil prices due to the U.S. and Israel’s attack on Iran have made investors more worried about inflation, triggering a sharp repricing of rates outlooks across the globe. That has lifted the U.S. dollar against most currencies.
