Trump Makes Strong Statement

Speaking to reporters at the White House, US President Donald Trump described those killed as great patriots. He said that this ISIS attack was on both the US and Syria. “We mourn the loss of our people and offer our prayers to their parents and families,” he said.

When asked whether the US would retaliate for the attack, Trump unequivocally stated, “Yes, we will respond.” Shortly thereafter, he also posted on the social media platform Truth Social that “very serious retaliatory action” would be taken.

Where the Attack Took Place

The attack took place on December 13 in Syria, near Palmyra, during a counter-terrorism operation. According to CENTCOM, the attacker was a lone ISIS gunman.

He was killed by the US and coalition forces. Three other American soldiers were wounded in the attack. The identities of the deceased have not yet been publicly released and will remain confidential for the next 24 hours to allow time for notification of their families.
