Donald Trump pauses Iran strikes by another 10 days, says talks between both nations going ‘very well’
In a fresh development amid the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, Donald J. Trump has announced a further delay in military action targeting Iranian energy infrastructure, extending the timeline by an additional 10 days.
In a statement shared on social media, Trump said that the decision was taken “as per Iranian Government request,” adding that the pause on “Energy Plant destruction” has now been pushed to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 PM Eastern Time. He also noted that talks between the two sides are ongoing and claimed that discussions are progressing well despite conflicting narratives.
This marks a second extension in recent days. Earlier, the US administration had already announced a five-day pause in potential military action, indicating an initial window for diplomatic engagement. The latest move effectively lengthens the negotiation period, suggesting continued backchannel communication between Washington and Tehran.
Trump’s statement emphasised that the delay is linked to ongoing discussions, while also criticising sections of the media for what he described as “erroneous statements” about the situation.
The development comes at a time when global markets have been closely tracking signals of escalation or de-escalation in the Middle East, particularly due to the region’s importance in global energy supply chains. The extension of the deadline indicates that diplomatic efforts remain active, even as uncertainty around the broader geopolitical situation persists.
