Trump Wrote, “I am happy to announce that the fighting between Thailand and Cambodia will now stop immediately and both countries will return to life in peace. I congratulate both great leaders for this quick and fair settlement.”
Attack on United Nations
On this occasion, Trump also indirectly attacked the United Nations and said that in the last eight to eleven months it has played a role in solving or preventing eight major conflicts of the world. He sarcastically said, “Perhaps America has now become the real United Nations, whereas the UN has proved to be of little help in these conflicts, especially in the Russia-Ukraine war.”
Thailand and Cambodia signed ceasefire
In fact, Thailand and Cambodia signed a ceasefire agreement on Saturday, which brought an end to the violent clashes over the border dispute that had been going on between the two countries for the last several weeks. So far, more than 47 people have died in this conflict, while more than 10 lakh people have been forced to leave their homes.
Under the ceasefire agreement, both the countries have agreed to stop firing, stabilize military activities and allow civilians living in the border areas to return safely as soon as possible.
China and Malaysia also played an important role
Just a day after the ceasefire was announced, senior diplomats from Thailand and Cambodia met in China for two-day talks. Along with America, China and Malaysia also played an important role in this process. In particular, Beijing seemed to be trying to strengthen its role in regional diplomacy through this mediation.
This statement of Trump has come at a time when he is going to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a day later. Zelensky’s proposed 20-point peace formula regarding the Russia-Ukraine war is likely to be discussed in this meeting.
