Donald Trump will reach Beijing on May 13, historic meeting with Xi Jinping is going to happen; Know the purpose of the tour
The spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry has officially announced that US President Donald Trump will pay a state visit to China from May 13 to May 15. This three-day visit, being held on the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, is being considered to give a new direction to the relations between the two countries.
Main purpose of travel
This visit is an effort to strengthen diplomatic dialogue between the two countries. At the international level, there have been differences between America and China on many issues. In such a situation, the Trump-Xi meeting is being called ‘super-meeting’. It is expected that this visit will lead to open discussions between the two countries on topics like trade, security and regional stability.
This visit could mark the beginning of a new chapter between Beijing and Washington on the international stage. Both the leaders also have good relations at the personal level, which increases the chances of positive results in the talks.
Earlier tensions on the Strait of Hormuz
Last month, tension had increased between the two countries. China had given a clear warning regarding the activities of the US Navy in the Strait of Hormuz. Chinese Defense Minister Admiral Dong Jun had said that America should not interfere in China’s trade and energy relations with Iran. He stressed that the Strait of Hormuz should remain open to China.
About 40 percent of China’s oil and 30 percent of its LNG needs are met through this waterway. Therefore, China has been continuously emphasizing on peace and ceasefire in the Gulf region.
America’s naval activities can target not only Iran but also the use of the Chinese Yuan currency. Some ships try to avoid the petrodollar system by using the yuan. In such a situation, these issues can also be discussed through Trump’s visit.
Hopes and the way forward
Both countries know that they are economically and strategically dependent on each other. Trump’s visit to China will try to improve trade relations, reach consensus on new agreements and regional security. This meeting will not only strengthen bilateral relations but can also prove important for global stability. The whole world is waiting for the results of this ‘super-meeting’.
