Beating heart reached Delhi from Rohtak in a closed compartment, young man got new life, read the story of 98 KM Green Corridor

Donor Heart Reached Rohtak To Delhi: Sometimes roads are not just a path, but become the fastest race between life and death. A similar scene was seen recently from Rohtak to Delhi on 9th April. The donor heart was transported in just 85 minutes by building a green corridor from Rohtak in Haryana to the national capital Delhi. The 98 km long green corridor was built with the collaboration of Delhi Police and Rohtak Police to give a new life to the youth.

In fact, on the afternoon of April 9, a 37-year-old man was admitted to PGIMS, Rohtak, Haryana after brain hemorrhage. He had lost consciousness. After all efforts, the doctors declared him brain dead. The family endured immense pain and agreed to donate the organs. This decision was not easy, but it became an example of humanity.

Within a few hours the surgical team became active in the hospital. The work of removing organs from the body began – heart, lungs, liver, kidney and cornea… every organ was going to become a new ray of life for some stranger.

Here, a 26-year-old young man was admitted to the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Okhla, Delhi. He was suffering from severe dilated cardiomyopathy – a disease in which the heart gradually weakens and leaves the body. Doctors had already told that without transplant life is not long. That day, as soon as the news of finding a matching heart was received, there was a commotion in the hospital. A green corridor was built to take the heart from Rohtak to Delhi. Delhi Police and Rohtak Police together cleared the roads as if time itself was giving way. The heart that was kept safe in the ambulance, which was beating in some other body till some time ago, was now moving towards a new life.

This distance of 98 kilometers takes one and a half to two hours on normal days, but that day even time had given up. In just 85 minutes the ambulance reached Fortis Escorts Hospital in Delhi. As soon as the heart reached the surgery theatre, the team of doctors immediately became active. Every second was precious. The beeping of machines, the soft sound of surgical instruments and the concentration of doctors – all combined in an effort to get the heart beating again. The operation was successful. The 26-year-old patient, who was swinging between life and death till some time ago, was now slowly feeling a new heartbeat. His condition in the ICU was said to be stable and doctors continued to monitor him.

Donor saved many lives

Many lives were saved from one donor. The lungs were sent to Gurugram hospital, the liver and pancreas were given to AIIMS Delhi, while the kidney and cornea were used in Rohtak only. This is the story of humanity. It shows that when systems, technology and humanity come together, the impossible becomes possible.
