“Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days”
Director Paul Feig has put an end to speculation about behind-the-scenes issues delaying A Simple Favor 2. Responding to rumors of a feud between stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, Feig confirmed that the sequel is on track and will be released soon.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Feig addressed the claims directly, writing, “This is total BS. Sorry. The movie is finished and coming out soon. Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days.”
The rumours began circulating after fans noticed that Amazon Studios hadn’t yet announced a release date for the sequel, which wrapped filming last spring. One user questioned the delay, prompting Feig to provide a detailed explanation of the post-production process.
“My friend, it’s called post-production, which generally takes over half a year at least,” Feig clarified. “This includes editing, scoring, special effects, sound mixing, close captioning, and technical quality control. Our post schedule always had us finishing everything by mid-January. Movies don’t come out the second they’re finished because the studio spends the previous year deciding the best date to release it. We’ve always planned for a spring/summer release this year. That’s how movies work. I hope this helps.”
Feig also shared his excitement about the film, writing, “The film is awesome, and Blake and Anna turn in amazing performances. I can’t wait for you all to see it. Stay tuned for more details. A Simple Favor 2 is coming soon!”
The sequel, produced by Amazon Studios and Lionsgate, was officially announced in 2022, with Feig returning to direct and Kendrick and Lively reprising their roles. Filming began last spring, bringing back several original cast members, including Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack.
In A Simple Favor 2viewers will follow Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) to the picturesque island of Capri, Italy. The plot centers around Emily’s lavish wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman. However, amid the glamour, the event takes a dark turn, with murder and betrayal adding unexpected twists to the festivities.
The first A Simple Favorreleased in 2018, was both a critical and commercial success, grossing $97 million worldwide on a modest $20 million budget. The story of a widowed mommy blogger unravelling the secrets of her enigmatic friend captivated audiences, setting high expectations for the sequel.
