1. ‘Consent’ is the first priority (Consent-First Holi)

No means no: The biggest change this year is regarding ‘consent’. The youth now instead of forcibly applying color to someone, first ask about his/her wish.

Consent Holi: According to dating apps and social media surveys, approx. 48% Indian youth believes that ‘consent’ has no longer become a rule but a civilized way of celebrating the festival (love language).

2. ‘Dry Holi’ and environmental awareness (Eco-Friendly & Dry Holi)

Gen Z now to stop water wastage ‘Dry Holi’ Likes more:

water saving: The youth believe that it is not right to waste thousands of liters of water for the joy of the festival.

Herbal and Organic Colors: To protect the skin and hair, only organic gulal is being used so that allergies and chemicals can be avoided.

3. Aesthetic & Camera-Ready Celebration

In the era of social media, the style of Holi has also become ‘Instagram-friendly’:

White outfits and pastel shades: Holi is now moving towards ‘aesthetic’ white clothes and light pastel colors (Pastel Gulal) instead of random colors so that the photos and reels look great.

Digital Celebration: Many youth are finding it safer and more comfortable to have ‘virtual dates’ or indoor house parties with friends by avoiding the hustle and bustle of the streets.

4. Mental Health and Personal Space (Boundaries & Mental Health)

No hubbub: Gen Z is rejecting the aggression that often lurked behind Holi celebrations. They are emphasizing on an ‘inclusive’ environment where women, children and even pets feel safe.

Peaceful Celebration: For some youth, Holi is no longer just about noise, but an opportunity to spend time sitting peacefully with loved ones.

5. Celebrity and Influencer Trends

This year, many Bollywood stars (like Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and new couple Rashmika-Vijay Deverakonda) have also shared messages of ‘Organic Holi’ and ‘Pet-Friendly Holi’, the impact of which is clearly visible on the youth.
