New Delhi, 30 December. The situation in the National Capital Region (NCR) is extremely severe due to winter along with pollution and dense fog. Excessive fog warning has been issued for two consecutive days. At the same time, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has crossed 450 in many areas. The situation was so bad that visibility was zero in many areas last night, due to which road, rail and air traffic was badly affected. According to data from various air quality monitoring centers in Delhi, the AQI was recorded at 451 in Anand Vihar, 433 in Ashok Vihar, 446 in Rohini, 449 in Wazirpur and 432 in Chandni Chowk.
Whereas, AQI was recorded at 411 in DTU Delhi, 410 in Sirifort, 401 in Shadipur, 426 in Punjabi Bagh, 421 in Sonia Vihar, AQI 368 in Bawana, 379 in Alipore and 380 in Vivek Vihar. All these figures fall in the ‘very bad’ category, which is considered extremely dangerous for health. The situation remains worrying in Noida and Ghaziabad also. AQI was recorded at 433 in Sector-1 of Noida, 388 in Sector-125 and Sector-116. Whereas, 372 was recorded in Sector-62. If we talk about Ghaziabad, AQI in Vasundhara reached 459, while 393 was recorded in Sanjay Nagar, 382 in Indirapuram and 360 in Loni. It is clear that the entire NCR is in the grip of pollution.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), ‘extremely dense fog’ is expected in the morning on December 30 and ‘dense fog’ will prevail till afternoon. The maximum temperature on this day was 21 degrees and the minimum was 8 degrees Celsius, while the humidity reached 100 percent. On December 31 also, a warning of dense fog has been issued in the morning. However, there is a possibility of light rain or drizzle on January 1, which may provide some relief from pollution and fog. Drivers had to face a lot of trouble due to dense fog. The speed on the highway has been very slow. There is traffic jam at many places and the risk of accidents has also increased.
