These double decker buses will be fully electric, i.e. zero emissions, low noise and environment friendly operation. Each bus will have a seating capacity of approximately 63 passengers, allowing tourists to enjoy a panoramic view of the Central Vista and nearby major sites.

Main characteristics:

* Facility of live tour guide on-board.
* Historical and cultural information will be provided at each stop.
* Attractive and bright graphics of major places of Delhi have been decorated on the buses.
*Tours will be available in both morning and evening.
* Evening tour will start at approximately 6 pm.
* At present this service will operate on the fixed circuit.

Return after 40 years: Confluence of nostalgia and modernity

Double-decker buses were quite popular in Delhi in the 1960s–70s under the ‘Suvidha’ service of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). These red and green buses used to run regularly from Chandni Chowk to Connaught Place and ITO. However, these were closed in the late 1980s due to rising maintenance costs, safety concerns and narrow roads.

Now after almost four decades, these buses are back in a new form. This time, instead of everyday public transport, they have been launched as a premium heritage tourist service, offering a blend of nostalgia and modern facilities.

Government’s Vision: Sustainable Tourism and Global Image

The project is being considered as part of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s budget announcement, which aims to further strengthen Delhi as a global tourism hub. An attempt has been made to simultaneously reduce carbon footprint through electric mobility and integrate heritage with modern technology.

This return of double decker buses is a trip down memory lane for Delhiites and a golden opportunity for tourists to see the capital from a new perspective. Now Delhi will again be seen from a height – with history, democracy and modernity.
